About Alicia

Alicia Stone
Romana’s Pilates Certified Instructor

A native Bostonian and long time New Yorker, Alicia has been a student of classical Pilates since 2002. As a trained dancer for over a decade, Alicia came to Pilates with a plethora of issues, including tendonitis in her hip and residual pain from dislocating both her knees in 1998. She found that practicing Pilates regularly not only dissolved her ailments but also made her stronger, leaner, and more flexible than ever before.

Alicia completed her certification through Romana’s Pilates at True Pilates New York (Drago's Gym) under master trainer Romana Kryzanowska (Joseph Pilates’ protégé) and her daughter, Sari Mejia-Santo. Alicia completed over 800 hours of seminars, observation, practice, and both practical and written tests, and has since attended numerous continuing education workshops with inspiring teachers including Sari Mejia-Santo, Jay Grimes, Jerome Weinberg, Kathi Ross-Nash, Mari Windsor, Brooke Siler, and Mejo Wiggin.

Alicia’s teaching experience includes not only working in a traditional Pilates studio and fitness center, but also in-home training. She has worked with a diverse group of clients from a professional martial artist to a teenage pop singer, and she has helped clients with a wide range of conditions from pinched nerves, torn menisci, and broken bones to Parkinson's, arthritis and sciatica.

After teaching Pilates successfully in Manhattan, Alicia relocated to San Francisco in 2009. She is excited to bring her classical and proven approach to the west coast, where she continues improving her clients’ lives through the Pilates method.

Inside the Studio

A boutique studio, REBEL Pilates provides access to the high quality training and equipment of a large-scale business while also maintaining the intimacy of a private studio, removing outside distractions during your workout and dissipating any self-consciousness you might feel in a larger studio setting. Pilates is traditionally intended to be taught one-on-one in order to gain the true benefit of the exercises. Through private Pilates training, we can create the best program for your individual needs.

The Apparatus

While many newcomers to Pilates are initially intimidated by the equipment, they soon discover that these apparatus can work the body better than all the machines in a gym combined. Unlike conventional machines that do the work for you, the Pilates apparatus provide resistance while you do the work yourself. The resistance springs allow you to exercise not only the major muscle groups but also smaller muscle groups that are frequently neglected in other workout methods. REBEL Pilates is a fully equipped studio, giving you the complete Pilates experience, so in addition to studying on the Mat and Reformer, you’ll have access to the full system of apparatus.

Get the greatest benefit by training on the Gratz Reformer, Cadillac, Wunda Chair, Electric Chair, Arm Chair, Ladder Barrel, Spine Corrector, and more. REBEL Pilates uses only high-quality authentic Gratz Pilates equipment, constructed with Joseph Pilates’ original designs and dimensions, which from my experience has proven to give the best results.
